Voluntary PreKindergarten (VPK)

The Epiphany Lutheran VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) Program is designed to prepare children for a smooth and confident transition into kindergarten. This program provides a balanced blend of academic readiness, social-emotional growth, and faith-based values — creating a strong foundation for lifelong learning. Each day is filled with purposeful, hands-on experiences that challenge children’s curiosity, strengthen independence, and foster a genuine love for learning.

Our VPK classroom promotes growth in all areas of development: cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Through a blend of structured lessons and play-based exploration, students engage in literacy, math, science, art, and social studies activities that build problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Teachers focus on helping each child master pre-reading and pre-writing skills, recognize sight words, identify letter sounds, and develop number sense through counting, patterning, and early addition and subtraction.

Social and emotional development remain at the heart of the program. Children learn to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and practice empathy and self-regulation in a supportive classroom community. Daily routines and group activities encourage responsibility, teamwork, and respect for others — skills essential for success in kindergarten and beyond.

In addition to academics, students are encouraged to express themselves through music, art, storytelling, and creative play. Physical development is strengthened through outdoor activities and fine motor practice that prepare students for writing and other classroom tasks. Faith and character education are naturally woven throughout the day, helping children understand kindness, gratitude, and compassion in everyday life.

The ultimate goal of the Epiphany Lutheran VPK Program is to nurture confident, capable, and compassionate learners who are excited and ready for the next chapter of their educational journey. Our dedicated teaching team works closely with each child to ensure they not only meet kindergarten readiness standards but also develop a lifelong love of learning and discovery.

Meet the Teacher

Welcome to the classroom! Ms. Lisa Ingram is excited to return to teaching this year after spending a year supporting the school in the front office. She brings a wealth of experience to her role, having worked with every early childhood age group—from infants and toddlers to twos, threes, and eventually VPK, which she began teaching in 2013.

Over the years, she has served at five different schools in Tallahassee, with only one not being faith-based. Since 2018, she has been a valued part of the Epiphany Lutheran Preschool team, where she enjoys working in an environment where she can openly share the love of Jesus. Ms. Lisa is passionate about early childhood education, especially reading and research in the field. She also loves spending time with her family and friends, caring for her cats, and tending to her plants. She and her husband, Brett, have three grown children—Kerry, Alexandria, and Mark—and are excited to become first-time grandparents around New Year’s.
